The petition created by Francis Abraham address to Senator Grace Poe and to the COMELEC chairman Sheriff M. Abas for rappler and Vera Files, in change.org.
The reason of the said petition is stated below:
Dear Honourable Senator Grace Poe and Comelec Chairman Sheriff M. Abas,
We respectfully plead for you to call for the immediate separate investigations both at the Senate and at the Comelec regarding Facebook Philippines’ censuring, throttling, suspension, and disabling of Facebook pages supporting the Duterte administration.
Even positive posts and memes of netizens which show the achievements of the current administration are being put down for the reason that it “violates community standards”. Pages and accounts are being suspended, disabled and throttled for the same reasons. It appears that these pages and accounts being throttled belong to supporters of Duterte and the current administration.
We believe that Facebook Philippines, through its app Facebook provides for ordinary Filipino Citizens, all 75 million of them who are subscribed to it, a healthy venue to air their political views freely and with equal opportunity and without censorship and bias.
Sadly, free, fair and equal opportunities to be heard cannot be achieved as Facebook Philippines had appointed two clearly biased fact checkers namely, Rappler Philippines through its owner Maria Ressa, and Vera Files, both organizations funded by foreign billionaires George Soros and Pierre Omidyar.
With elections coming, we believe that more accounts and posts will be unfairly disabled, put down, throttled and suspended, while political views, posts and accounts in line with the fact checkers views will be boosted.
Let us preserve true freedom of expression in social media, particularly Facebook; the ordinary Filipino’s venue to express himself. We must get biased fact checkers out of Facebook.
