ABS-CBN’s Davao unit tried to reimburse Duterte for his unaired campaign ad

President Rodrigo Duterte revealed that ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. tried to settle his refund for an unaired political ad campaign last year and he has the check to prove it.

“I don’t know if it’s true but somebody posted in the Internet that I do not owe ABS anything because what they did with my money,” said Duterte in a press conference

“But they forgot that their Davao City station gave us a letter with a corresponding cheque and saying that it is a reimbursement because you have a demandable and it’s a… Cheke. Cheke,” he added.

Duterte has been taunting ABS-CBN in the last few weeks over its failure to run his campaign ad last year (which was supposed to be his answer to an anti-Duterte it ran and paid for by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV) and failure to pay back his money. Duterte called ABS-CBN a “swindler” and guilty of “estafa.”

A report by Politiko claimed that there was no money to refund because ABS-CBN rejected his payment for the campaign ad – the media giant did not air the ad (which used footage of Duterte’s appearance in ABS-CBN’s presidential debate program) because Duterte’s campaign team refused to blur the faces of ABS-CBN big bosses Gaby Lopez and Charo Santos-Concio.

Who’s got the money? ABS-CBN never got payment from Duterte for campaign ad

A source from the Palace said that Duterte has the receipt to prove that ABS-CBN accepted payment for his ad and the check to prove that ABS-CBN to prove that it tried to reimburse him.

Duterte said he would elaborate on this long-running financial dispute with ABS-CBN in his next press conference. “Let me talk about it in the next, about this cheque I will give you a copy. Okay? Thank you,” said Duterte.
