Rafael Alunan III to Conchita: Unfair to probe Bato and not De Lima

Former Secretary of Interior and Local Government Rafael Alunan on Friday reacted to the recent announcement of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales to probe Philippine National PoliceChief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa for accepting an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas from Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao went to Las Vegas for a match against boxer Jessie Vargas.

On the other hand, a long proposed probe on Senator Leila de Lima’s alleged involvement with the proliferation of drug trade within the New Bilibid Prison, and alleged corruption while Justice Secretary under Aquino, was denied by Carpio-Morales.

Alunan called the motion to probe Bato “unfair”, in his post on his Facebook page.

“Hindi naman tama yan. Bakit ganyan? Hindi patas ang labanan. Yung mamang pulis na kailangang turuan ng propriety to avoid conflict of interest and allegations of graft and corruption ay iimbestigahan. Yung babae na akusada bilang narco-politician ay hindi. Mas mabigat na kasalanan yan! Hindi ko maintindihan.” he wrote.

Alunan asked for an “explanation”.

Gender bias? Color blind? Paki-explain.” he wrote.

Dela Rosa will be investigated for the possible violation of Republic Act No. 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees) and Presidential Decree No. 46 (Making it punishable for public officials and employees to receive, and for private persons to give, gifts on any occasion, including Christmas).
