On the fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Duterte, he promises that he will increase the salary of nurses and teachers under the new Salary Standardization law.
All employees of the government which includes the nurses and teachers would get an increased salary under the said law.
President Duterte ordered the Congress to pass and implement it immediately on his SONA that happened in Monday, July 22, 2019.
President Duterte stated,
“I, therefore, believe that it is now time for Congress to approve a new version of the Salary Standardization Law, ngayon na.”
He continues,
“To the teachers, alam mo dito… who toil and work tirelessly to educate our young, kasali na po dito ‘yung hinihingi ninyo.”
But President Duterte stated that the higher salary will not be bigger as what he provided on the soldiers and policemen.
The President told,
“Hindi naman masyadong malaki, pero it will tide you over during these hard times, a little bit bigger than before. This is intended to increase the salaries of national government workers including teachers and nurses.”
A P5,000 increase in the salary to all teachers in public school would cost the government around 75 million pesos yearly or 343 billion pesos if the Duterte administration liked to double the salary of police and soldier based on the Education Secretary Leonor Briones.
We all know that one of the difficult jobs in the government was to be a government nurse and teacher that’s maybe the reason why there are many groups that represents them to ask and plead to President Duterte if they can also give them higher salaries. However, teachers and nurse really deserve to have a high salary for their hard work that they were doing to their works and help a lot of people who needed them the most.
