DFA Sec Cayetano to Noynoy Aquino: ‘Was Del Rosario transparent with you?’
Former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino is making a call to the Duterte administration to be more transparent regarding the government moves/actions in dealing with China with respect to the West Philippine Sea issue.
Aquino made the call after President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s statement in his Stae of the Nation Address (SONA) that the country has renewed affinity with the Asian giant does not mean any waiver to its territorial claims over the West Philippine Sea.
“Pakiusap baka pwedeng ipakita yung mga negosasyon nila, maging mas transparent tayo dito para wala nang agam-agam ang mga kababayan natin,”
Duterte was quoted during his SONA speech that the country will not waiver in its commitment to defend what is rightfully ours in the West Philippine Sea.
“Our improved relationship with China does not mean that we will waver in our commitment to defend our territories in the West Philippine Sea,” President Duterte said.
DFA Sec. Cayetano fires back at Aquino
Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Peter Allan Cayetano fires back at former President Noynoy Aquino after the latter asked transparency from the Duterte administration regarding its dealings with China.
“Former President Aquino should ask former Secretary Albert Del Rosario: ‘Were you transparent with me?” Cayetano told media men.
Cayetano has turned the tables on Aquino, claiming it was during their administration that they were not transparent with the people regarding the handling of the WPS controversy with China.
He further slammed the former president’s administration for imposing its diplomatic strategy on the Duterte administration.
“The problem is their strategy is not working. What’s Einstien’s definition of stupidity? To keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result,” he said
Cayetano explains that Aquino and his allies wanted the DFA to file diplomatic protests- which accomplish nothing.
“On the surface, it looks like a brave and strong strategy but actually it doesn’t produce results,” he pointed out.
Aquino and Robredo was misinformed
Cayetano lamented that its very unfortunate that Aquino and Vice President Leni Robredo were “fed with wrong information.”
“It’s very unfortunate that the same small core who hijacked the foreign policy in the last administration are feeding them information that is simply not true,” he said.
“Hindi kalaban ng Aquino administration and Duterte administration. We want the same thing. But it’s not true that we’re not transparent,” Cayetano pointed out.
Cayetano said all meetings/dealings with China are all put into record.
